Call For Papers

1st Virtual Irish History Students’ AssociationConference

The Irish History Students’ Association, in conjunction with Maynooth University, is delighted to announce the Call for Papers for its 1st Virtual Conference which will run from Thursday 11 March - Saturday 13 March 2021. We have chosen to go virtual due to Covid-19, but we are, as ever, looking forward to an insightful and thought-provoking conference that displays the future of Irish historical research.

We invite proposals (in English or Irish) for papers on any historical theme or period from undergraduate/postgraduate students and early-career researchers in Ireland, along with those researching Irish history abroad. Paper abstracts of up to 250 words for a 10-12-minute research paper (approx. 5-8 PowerPoint slides) and a brief personal biography of no more than 100 words should be submitted to 2021ihsa@gmail.com. Full-panel submissions are also encouraged, of 3-4 papers maximum, and applicants are invited to make use of our Facebook event page to get in contact with other researchers in their field.

Proposals should be submitted no later than 07 January 2021. Please submit abstracts and biographies via email in the format of a word document accompanied by your full name, institutional affiliation (if any) and paper title.

We also intend to publish a selection of essays emanating from the conference in Retrospect, the IHSA’s journal. Those interested in having their paper considered for inclusion in this must be willing to write a 5,000-word essay on their presentation topic for submission following the conference. Applicants should express their interest in being considered for this collection of essays when submitting their abstracts and biographies.
